Getting fit (or fitter) is a common New Year goal, but most people set the bar too high and have expectations that more or less guarantee they’ll give up. We’re lucky to have so many great fitness establishments on our doorstep, so just about anyone can find an activity they enjoy.

Here are a few to consider:

Premier Personal Training

Do you start out with good intentions and plenty of motivation, then find it tapers off after a while? Most of us do so you’re not alone. That’s why Premier Personal Training succeeds where others fail: they get behind you for every step of your fitness journey right from the start.

They’ll create an action plan that’s measurable and achievable, even giving you a call if you miss a session to help get you back on track. As well as fitness training, they also offer training in nutrition and healthy lifestyle.

You’ll find Premier Personal Training at 27110 Cinco Ranch Blvd, in Katy, Texas 77494, and they’re open every day except Sunday.

Alief Crossfit

If you plan on getting super fit and increasing your overall strength and stamina, Crossfit could be just what you’re looking for. Don’t be scared by the name or reputation. Yes, Crossfit offers the ultimate workout, but Alief Crossfit makes sure anything you’re asked to do falls within your current level of fitness.

The personal trainers are on hand at every session to tailor the WOD (Workout of the Day) and modify the exercises for beginners. They’ll keep you motivated, encourage you when the going gets tough, and keep you on track to meet your goals.

Alief Crossfit is based at 7755 Synott Road in Houston, and they’re open daily except Sundays. There are monthly price points depending on the classes you’re interested in, as well as drop-in sessions.

Dynamic Fitness

With a top-notch variety of classes and facilities, Dynamic Fitness is the complete, one-stop shop to help you achieve your health and fitness goals. There are even kids’ fitness programs so the whole family can get involved and keep each other motivated.

As well as gym facilities, you can enjoy the swimming pool, play racquetball, relax in the sauna or the Jacuzzi.

If you like the idea of a personalized training program, one-on-one trainers will work with you, or you could take part in group training programs or classes. There’s something for everyone, so mix and match sessions depending on how you feel, choosing group training sessions such as zumba, cycle, bodypump, yoga or aqua.

Dynamic Fitness is open every day, including special kids’ zone hours, and you can find them at 9920 Highway 90, Sugarland, Texas.

Iron Strength Kettlebell Gym

If you’re bored with the usual fitness and training offerings, Kettlebell Gym could be what you’re looking for to meet your 2016 fitness goals.

The unique shape of the kettlebell, with its center of gravity away from your body, gives you a better workout than traditional dumbbells. All the sessions are supervised by trainers who make sure you’re performing the exercises properly, making even group sessions highly personalized.

There are different weights to suit all levels of fitness, and all age groups from teens to seniors. Included in the equipment range are ropes, bandit loops and vintage barbells as well as kettlebells. It’s great, all-round exercise to improve cardiovascular endurance, stamina and agility.

You’ll find Iron Strength at 104 Industrial Blvd #106, in Sugarland, TX. There are different sessions every day of the week, except Sunday.

Tips to Keep You On Track

#1 – Make a Plan and Be Realistic

Decide on your goals before New Year’s Eve rather than on the night as midnight approaches and you’ve had a few drinks. Be realistic about what you can achieve. Getting fit, building stamina or losing weight is a long-term goal, not something you can do in a week. Aim for small milestones, and give yourself a reward for each one reached.

#2 – Involve Friends

Tell your family and friends what you want to achieve and get them on board to help you along. Even better, get a friend to join you in your fitness journey and go to classes together. It’ll help you both stay keen.

#3 – Keep Track of Your Progress

Make a note of measurements, weight and fitness levels before you start, then record weekly changes. As you see the pounds disappear, or how much further you can run after a month, you’ll be more motivated to carry on. Remember, the fitter you get the faster and further you can go, but it doesn’t feel easier because you’re constantly pushing your boundaries. Noting the changes is the best way to see evidence of your progress.

You can do anything, if you take action. If you need to visit an ER, visit our nearest emergency room location in Fort Bend, TX area.
