National Nutrition Month: Places to Celebrate in Montrose

National Nutrition Month was founded in March 1973 and has been celebrated every year since then. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics campaigns with the aim of helping people to make informed choices about the food they eat and the exercise they take. Celebrate National Nutrition Month

Places In Montrose to Celebrate National Nutrition Month

The Academy has more than 75,000 members most of whom are registered dietitian nutritionists and dietetic technicians. It is the world’s largest organization of professionals in the food and nutrition industry.

Every year the Academy chooses a different theme, each one tailored to help individuals make informed choices. It encourages us all to take a more active, mindful role regarding food and nutrition. Over the years, our eating habits change, both culturally and individually. The Academy recognizes this and takes pains to always align its information to the way we live our lives and feed our families.

Mindful Eating

The theme for 2016 is “Savor the Flavor of Eating Right”. Today, arguably more than ever, much of our culture revolves around the traditions of food, dining, family, and friends. Few of us can imagine a social gathering that doesn’t include food, drink or both.

At the same time, we live ever more busy lives, often with barely time to pause over lunch. Grabbing a bite and eating on the hoof does neither our taste buds nor our digestive systems any good.

Savoring the flavor encourages us to take time to enjoy and appreciate the food we eat, regardless of when, where, why or how we’re eating it. Nourishing our bodies should be an event worthy of some ceremony, rather than a quick fix to get us through the next part of the day, which often leads to poor nutrition decision making.

Celebrating Individuality

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognizes that we are all different, with no single diet suiting everyone. Rather than seeking to dictate what you should and shouldn’t eat, National Nutrition Month aims to bring together nutrition experts, offering comprehensive advice to interested individuals. Diet and nutrition can seem complicated and confusing, But National Nutrition month aims to give us all a basic understanding of what our bodies need, empowering individuals to make confident, healthy lifestyle choices.
