How Emergency Care Coverage Works

Your insurance is billable for emergencies, the No Surprises Act protects you from balance billing, and Texas Health & Safety Code obligates us to screen and stabilize regardless of ability to pay.

Q: I see SignatureCare Emergency Center is out-of-network. Will I get a surprise bill?

A: No. The No Surprises Act protects you from balance billing for emergency services. You only owe your in-network cost-sharing.

Q: What is an emergency?

A: An emergency medical condition under Texas law is one where a reasonable person would expect that, without immediate care, they could face serious harm. Our facility fully complies with the provisions of the Texas Health & Safety Code, which provides that, without regard to the individual's ability to pay, an appropriate medical screening, examination, and stabilization within the facility's capabilities will be provided to determine whether an emergency medical condition exists and will provide any stabilizing treatment.

Q: How do I know what I'll owe?

A: Call our team before or after your visit, and we'll help walk you through what to expect under your specific plan.

Q: What if my visit isn't a true emergency?

A: If our emergency room physician's screening determines your condition is not an emergency, we can discuss your options, including referral to urgent care or your primary doctor. Non-emergency services at our facility may be billed at out-of-network rates.

Q: Do you have a price list?

A: Yes — see our ER Chargemaster List.
